Buying a property proves most stressful

Property buying has been deemed more stressful than having a baby or starting a new job, a survey has shown.

24% of homeowners questioned identified buying a house as the most stressful experiences in life, with starting a new job (14%) coming second. Others included having a child (13%) and getting married (9%).

Almost half of the people surveyed also said that buying their second home was almost, if not more, stressful than buying their first, with finding the right property being the number one qualm.

Younger age ranges were recorded as being the most stressed by home buying, with 37% of them finding it their most stressful activity compared with the 24% of over 70 year olds.

Moving up the property ladders appears to be more stressful than initially getting onto it, with 41% of home owners saying that buying their second home was more stressful than buying their first.

16% of the people surveyed also said that buying their second home was a bigger decision that buying their first, with 20% of home owners stating that moving into the property more stressful than getting a mortgage.

A terrace house for £1 or £250m – Britain's bizarre housing crisisNews in austerity Britain is not short on grotesque juxtapositions, but there was one this week that was just so spectacular that it couldn't pass without comment. In the same week, terrace houses were expected to change hands in different parts of the country for £250m and £1. That, respectively, is the most expensive housing ever sold in the UK, and some of the cheapest, were it not for councils' occasional tendency to give council estates to developers for free. What sort of urban landscape is it that has such things occurring at once, and what sort of places are these that are so astonishingly disparate in asking price?
